The almond trees are in bloom on the coasts and in the islands

Today I would like to draw your attention, through our newsletter, to one of the most beautiful experiences of early spring here in Spain: the almond blossom.

In the coming weeks, you will see an unusual visual spectacle. Soon, large parts of the country will be lit up in white and pink and the almond trees will turn Spain into a beautiful sea of flowers!

While temperatures in northern Europe are still quite low, here in Spain thousands of flowers will bloom under blue skies in the fields, on the mountainsides and in the valleys, giving off an enchanting and charming scent.

It is especially at this time of year, the Spanish spring, that the almond-growing regions are worth a visit, especially the Costa Blanca, the Costa Calida and Mallorca. In some regions, from the end of January to the end of February, special guided tours are offered by the municipalities, during which participants are taken to the most beautiful almond growing areas.

But there are also many other ways to discover this enchanting splendour: whether you explore the landscape with your camera in hand or sit under a blossoming almond tree to enjoy the silence during a picnic with your loved one, you shouldn't miss this wonderful experience.

And then, of course, it's also part of the experience to taste the regional almond specialities on offer in the markets and village shops. The almond production has a long tradition in Spain and is an important source of income in agriculture. Spain is the world's second largest producer of almonds after the United States, and while Mallorca's almonds are characterised by their particular sweetness, Costa Blanca is considered as the main growing area on the continent.

The almond belongs to the rose family. This gnarled tree, which originated in Asia, is frugal and robust in all respects, making it an ideal plant for dry and arid soils.

Like all nuts, almonds are very energy-rich. They contain over 50% fat and many valuable B vitamins and important minerals. Almond milk is particularly popular as an alternative for lactose intolerant and vegans, as it contains no animal protein. Many natural body care products are also made from these rich ingredients: The body milk and gel with sweet almond oil, the sweet almond cream and the pure almond oil are effective and gentle skin care products.

Here are some of the most beautiful places on the Costa Blanca, Costa Calida and Mallorca where you can marvel at the almond blossom:

Valle del Pop (province of Alicante)

Around the village of Alcalali, there are hiking trails through almond forests and numerous markets and shops selling almond products.

Campo de Cajitán (Murcia)

One of the largest almond plains on the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula.

Fliabres-Alhamilla (Almeria)

Many villages in this region celebrate the "Jornades Gastronómicas de la Almendra" (Gastronomic Days of the Almonds) with a variety of delicious products always based on almonds.

Son Severa (Mallorca)

It is not without reason that Mallorcans are proud of their island.  Son Severa, the towns of Marraxti, Santa Maria del Cami or Bunyola are the most beautiful places to admire the almond flower.
