Spain info November: Unmissable places to visit (part 2)

November already!  With this newsletter, we would like to continue our sharing of new places to visit, in order to help you plan your next holiday. If it’s not this year, it’s a rain check for next year!

Let yourself be seduced again by the villages, beaches, restaurants and activities of Spain's most popular holiday regions, with this 2nd part of our suggestions:

COSTA BLANCA

1. Fonts of Algar

Not to be missed, especially outside the high season, a day trip to Callosa d'En Sarriá at the "Fonts d'Algar".  Even the road to get there is an experience.  Many orange and medlar plantations line the road.  Numerous small springs which become beautiful waterfalls and small lakes form the "Fonts d´Algar".  You will find hiking trails and natural pools washed away by the falls.  So don't forget your swimsuit!

2. Cabo del Faro de Santa Pola

At 90.5 km, the N332 between Santa Pola and Alicante turn right.  There is only one small sign: Cabo del Faro 4 km away.  Continue straight on a narrow road for 4 km.  At the end you reach the lighthouse.  Please exit and follow the narrow path past the fenced lighthouse.  And then you are already on the "Skywalk", a steel observation platform that rises 100 meters above the cliffs and offers spectacular views over the sea to the island of Tabarca and Alicante. The perfect place for a picnic in the late afternoon and early evening!

3. Queen Mississippi in La Mata (Torrevieja)

A paddle steamer on dry land?  Yes it's possible!  The Queen Mississippi, a mix of bar and restaurant, offers an excellent menu to savor in a Moroccan atmosphere and at an affordable price.  In the beautifully designed restaurant, or on the upper deck, have a drink or a meal while enjoying the sea view. It is good to know that the location can also be booked for private parties.

MALLORCA

1. Cala Na Clara / Cala Lombarts

Mallorca is known for offering countless bays and beaches.  Here are two of the nicest ones. Cala Na Clara, between Colonia de Sant Pere and Cap Farrutx in the northeast of the island,  is a small bay.  With a bit of luck you will have it almost to yourself outside of high season.  The trail to get there is quite difficult so not for everyone but the view you will have of the water, sand and mountain is just out of this world.

The water of Cala Llombarts near Santanyí in the south is a real postcard.  They even thought about attaching steel ladders to the rock so that visitors can comfortably enter the water.

2. Weekly market on Sunday

The Santa Maria del Cami market (about 20 minutes by car from Palma) is considered the most beautiful market on the island by Mallorcan people.  There is a wide range of vegetables, fruits, antipasti, cheese and also special incense blends. The people of the market are very welcoming and always offer you to taste their products!  This market is every Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

3. Mhares Sea Club

The Mhares Sea Club, with beach beds and umbrellas elegantly positioned around the L-shaped swimming pool, is very secluded and very peaceful although close by is the S’Arenal area, a favorite spot for party lovers.  The Mhares Sea Club is a dream location in shades of white and blue and very very quiet, without disturbing noises.  Massages are provided between the gentle movements of the sails of the gazebos and a sea food meal served on the shaded terrace of the restaurant.

ANDALUSIA

1. Playa de los Genoveses in the Cabo de Gata Natural Park

The Playa de los Genoveses is 1,200 meters long and 40 meters wide.  What makes this beach so special is not its size but its location in the middle of the natural park, surrounded by eucalyptus trees and thick vegetation of figs, cacti and agaves.  Due to the golden yellow sand and the dunes, “Los Genoveses” has been repeatedly voted among the ten best beaches in Spain.  The water is crystal clear!  To protect the beach, access by car is not possible, a minibus leaves at the end of the village of San José, 2 km away.  Once you are there in the natural park, the Sirens Reef is definitely worth a visit!

2. Andalusian bike tour

Cycling is a great way to discover Andalusia!  Spend a day in the great outdoors on a comfortable electric bike, with stunning views of nature, a perfect day.  One of the most beautiful cycle paths in Andalusia runs through the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park (Grazalema - Llanos del Republicano - Villaluenga del Rosario).  A tailor-made route for each type of cyclist.  The 190,000 hectare natural park includes many pastures with century-old trees (including the rare Pinsapo fir) and a network of idyllic trails.  The “Route of the Castles” with 10 castles and fortresses dotted around the Sierra is also worth it.

3. Tapas in Granada

Eating tapas is a tradition all over Andalusia, but more particularly in the region of Granada.  If you are looking for tasty tapas that are out of the ordinary then BAR POE is the place for you.  The owner is English, but the chef is Spanish.  The wide variety of tapas is truly out of the ordinary and merges the Spanish tradition while adding a cosmopolitan touch.  For each beverage ordered you are entitled to the tapas of your choice.  Attention: Arrive early to ensure a place because less than 30 minutes after opening (at 8:00 p.m.) the place is packed.
